About AGLOW

How is AGLOW different? The short answer… we’re a family of the best outdoor communicators in the country. The long answer is a little more involved. The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) is a dynamic organization of writers, editors, publishers, and many other media professionals. As individual communicators, we educate and in- form the masses through the written and spoken word. But as an organization, we foster an unmatched fellowship among our members and provide amazing networking, educational, career and craft improvement opportunities.

Like we said…we’re a family. Want to join us?

The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Founded 1956

AGLOW was Founded in 1956, making it one of the oldest outdoor communicators associations in the country. The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) started with a humble beginning. A handful of outdoor media professionals saw an association as a way for us to connect as writers to improve our craft and become better stewards of the outdoors by connecting with others in our industry.

Today, AGLOW has grown to over 400 members that comprise a dynamic organization of writers, editors, publishers, broadcasters, authors, lecturers, photographers, artists, electronic media specialists, bloggers, outdoors industry representatives, and tourism professionals, working together to promote the conservation and responsible use of our outdoor resources. As individual outdoor communicators, we educate and inform the masses through the written and spoken word. But as a group, we continue the traditions and ideals established by our founders.

However, we know that change is necessary to survival. Over the years we have embraced new technologies and are continually striving to stay at the forefront of evolving technologies and trends in media. And we foster a family-oriented membership, and are always looking for people in the outdoor industry to join our fellowship and share all that we love about communicating about the great outdoors.
